Objectives

Provide women with relevant skills for income generation and economic development:
This will be achieved through various trainings after completion of a needs assessment. It will improve the quality of life for disadvantaged and marginalized persons.

Promote Functional Adult Literacy (FAL) among women:
Achieved by educating and training women at various levels. The main focus is to care for, educate and support women. This will result in giving the women the tools necessary for reestablishing their lives and finding better jobs so they can improve their quality of life. Great success has been shown by people who have already participated in our programs and undergone proper counseling.

Promote good health practices among women.
This will be achieved through demonstrating correct nutrition, sanitation, and hygiene practices. SWODIA carries out seminars and trainings in various areas concerning these topics. The ladies receive training and are provided vegetables and seeds so they can plant crops to boost their diet and even earn a living cultivating plants on large scale.

Establish and promote saving and credit facilities to women.
This has been achieved through the various income generating activities that SWODIA has developed. SWODIA takes time to train women in basic financial classes covering how to plan, budgeting and save money, which they have embraced by opening up accounts to save a portion of profits

Promote human rights.
Promote and educate women on basic human rights, especially those concerning them, directly in conjunction with various related organizations such as International Justice Mission, seminars by lawyers, etc.
Provide women with counseling and guidance services.
Through the current SWODIA staff, a large number of women have been counseled and cared for with successful results. HIV positive women have always seen death at the door and constantly worried about the future of their children and how to survive. Through SWODIA’s counseling and health program this fear has been minimized.

Support abandoned and neglected children.
If parents neglect their children, SWODIA supports these children through counseling and by connecting them to various organizations. SWODIA works with the families through mediation and counseling and often improvements are made. Success is often achieved as many families accept their children back into their home with no more neglect after SWODIA’s intervention.  SWODIA continues to visit the families to guarantee that the children are being well treated and cared for by their family.

Reduce psychological problems caused by divorce, death, teenage pregnancies, abandon, alcohol and other traumatic incidences.
Achieved through counseling and referral to others partner organizations such as Alcoholic Anonymous recovery centers, etc.

Build a strong relationship with women and families to create a community experience.
Create community events, such as parties, to share experiences where everyone can learn from each other. SWODIA events will include recognition for the best participants of the year in different areas and topics such as how to raise a child’s self- esteem, communication, increased nutrition, and others. These events also improve family functioning and raises spirits.
Work to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS and mitigate its effects.
SWODIA works to stop stigma and encourage the use of ARVs by those who are currently HIV positive. SWODIA also educates and trains women on how to live longer through a counseling process. The hope is to see an HIV/AIDS free generation in Uganda in the future.
