HIV/AIDS

HIV/AIDS is a major problem in the Mukono District. SWODIA carries out a sexual health program, which focuses on counseling, guidance, educational trainings and community outreach related to HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), family planning and life skills planning.

SWODIA carries out a Sexual Reproductive Health Program, which focuses on counseling and guidance, educational trainings and community outreach related to HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), family planning, and life skills planning. To implement this program, SWODIA administers free voluntary counseling and testing for HIV/AIDS and other STDs, and also provides HIV positive individuals with ARV's medicine. SWODIA volunteers then make regular home visits to those who have tested positive in order to supply them with food and other materials that have been donated to the program.

SWODIA also has a Vocational and Life Skills Training program. This program targets vulnerable women, particularly widows and those living with HIV/AIDS, OVCs and grandmothers caring for vulnerable children. It seeks to address lack of economic opportunity for these groups of people by providing training and individualized instruction in entrepreneurship, marketing techniques for small businesses, micro finance and the implementation of income-generating activities (IGAs), including:
  • Farming
  • Vegetables growing
  • Rearing of Chickens
  • Mushroom growing
  • Tailoring and design
  • Arts and crafts
  • Hair dressing and styling
